Tryout Information
Tryout Expectations and Commitments
The program is designed for girls who want to play basketball at a high level. Summer League, tournaments and practices are all at a competitive level. Practice and game conflicts should only be due to sickness, school, religion and/or family functions. If you decide to have your daughter tryout for the Junior Raider program please try to minimize all other conflicts.

Fee
If offered a roster spot, the total fee would be $450. Payment is due upon accepting a roster spot. While we appreciate full payment at that time, we recognize that is not possible for everyone. As an alternative, you can make an initial payment of at least $150 at that point and the remainder would be due by September 1.
Uniform
If you are a player who needs to order a jersey and shorts, that fee would be an additional $90. Although uniform payment will be to Jr. Raiders, uniform ordering will happen via a web portal and additional optional items will be available for purchase there, such as shooting shirts with last name on the back and basketball backpacks.
Parent Meeting
We will be holding a parent meeting after tryouts and will communicate the date and location shortly. At that meeting, we will go over the program, the season, and answer questions.

Tryout and Grade Level Philosophy
The Jr. Raiders Girls Basketball program is dedicated to raising and empowering young basketball players. And as a feeder program for Wauwatosa East High School, we work to not only build a love for the game, but also prepare the girls for competitive play at the high school level.
With this in mind, we look to build the girls’ skills and confidence over time in the program, providing a “step-up” approach that increases competitively as they progress.
For the 3rd and 4th grade teams, we teach the fundamentals of the sport and focus on whole team development. We provide a balanced environment that encourages growth for all players. Our goal is to create balanced teams whose focus is skill development. As the athletes progress, we begin to prepare and transition them for a higher level of competitive play.
For 5th - 8th grade teams, we move to a “select” model where our goal is to split the teams into A and B levels. This allows the club to build skill levels that successfully transition to a high school program, while providing team options that are more aligned with individual needs and level of play.
If possible, we will create multiple teams at each grade level, with a goal of having at least 2 teams at every grade level. We target a roster of 10-11 players for each team. In certain circumstances, we can consider an "alternate" approach, where a player who didn't make the team can practice with the team but will not play in games unless there is a need. This allows a committed player to work on their skills without creating unwieldy rosters. Alternates are rare and done on a case-by-case basis at the determination of the director and board. If you did not make a team and are interested in being considered as an alternate, you can contact the club directors Josh Blakely and Tom Oleniczak.
